2024 NBA Draft Lottery: Everything You Need to Know

Date and Time

The 2024 NBA Draft Lottery will be held on Sunday, May 12, at 3 pm EST.

Latest News and Odds

The latest news and odds for the lottery can be found at various sports news outlets. Some teams with the best odds include the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Charlotte Hornets.

How It Works

The NBA Draft Lottery uses a weighted system to determine the order of the first 14 draft picks. The teams that missed the playoffs are entered into the lottery, with the team with the worst record having the best chance of winning the No. 1 overall pick.

The lottery is conducted in three stages. In the first stage, 14 balls numbered 1 through 14 are placed in a hopper. Four balls are drawn, one at a time, to create a four-digit number. This number determines the team that wins the No. 1 pick.

In the second stage, 13 balls numbered 1 through 13 are placed in the hopper. Three balls are drawn, one at a time, to create a three-digit number. This number determines the team that wins the No. 2 pick.

In the third stage, 12 balls numbered 1 through 12 are placed in the hopper. Two balls are drawn, one at a time, to create a two-digit number. This number determines the team that wins the No. 3 pick. The remaining teams are then assigned picks in reverse order of their records.
