Azerbaijan Grand Prix: McLaren dethrones Red Bull to lead championship

Lando Norris takes stunning victory, with teammate Daniel Ricciardo finishing second

In a thrilling and unexpected turn of events, McLaren has emerged as the new leader of the Formula One World Championship after a dominant performance at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Lando Norris claimed a remarkable victory, while his teammate Daniel Ricciardo crossed the line in second place, marking the team's first 1-2 finish since 2010.

Red Bull's early dominance shattered

Red Bull, which had dominated the opening races of the season, suffered a major setback in Baku. Max Verstappen, the championship leader, crashed out of the race on lap 47 while leading, handing the advantage to McLaren. Sergio Perez, Verstappen's teammate, also endured a disappointing race, finishing 16th after struggling with car issues.

Norris's brilliant drive

Norris, who started the race in third position, drove a flawless race, managing his tires perfectly and holding off the challenges from Red Bull's Sergio Perez and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. The 22-year-old Briton took the lead on lap 31 and never looked back, crossing the line 3.7 seconds ahead of Ricciardo.

Ricciardo's redemption

Ricciardo, who has struggled for form since joining McLaren, delivered a much-needed performance in Baku. The Australian driver made a brilliant start, moving up to second place on the opening lap, and held off the challenges from Perez and Leclerc throughout the race.

McLaren's resurgence

McLaren's victory in Baku is a testament to the team's hard work and determination. After a difficult start to the season, the team has made significant improvements to its car and is now a genuine contender for the championship.

Title race wide open

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix has thrown the Formula One title race wide open. Red Bull's early advantage has been eroded, and McLaren is now the team to beat. With eight races remaining in the season, anything is possible.
