Helmut Marko reveals that a decision on Yuki Tsunoda's teammate will be made by the Japanese Grand Prix

Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has stated that a decision on Yuki Tsunoda's teammate for the 2025 Formula 1 season will be made by the Japanese Grand Prix. The Austrian also confirmed that the Milton Keynes-based team are considering both internal and external candidates.

Tsunoda has been with AlphaTauri since 2021, and has shown flashes of brilliance during his time with the team. However, he has also been criticized for his inconsistency, and has often been outperformed by his teammate Pierre Gasly.

Who could partner Tsunoda in 2025?

There are a number of drivers who have been linked with a move to AlphaTauri for 2025. These include Nyck de Vries, who is currently driving for Williams, and Liam Lawson, who is a member of the Red Bull Junior Team.

De Vries is a highly-rated driver who has won titles in both Formula 2 and Formula E. He also impressed during his brief spell with Williams in 2022, scoring points in three of his eight races.

Lawson is a rising star who has won races in both Formula 2 and Formula 3. He is currently leading the Formula 2 championship, and is seen as one of the most promising young drivers in the world.

It will be interesting to see who Red Bull ultimately decide to partner Tsunoda with for the 2025 season. De Vries is the more experienced driver, but Lawson is seen as a future star.

Marko: We will have a clear picture by the Japanese Grand Prix

Marko has said that Red Bull will have a clear picture of their driver plans for 2025 by the Japanese Grand Prix, which takes place on October 9.

He said: "We will have a clear picture by then [the Japanese Grand Prix]. We are looking at both internal and external candidates. We want to make sure that we have the best possible driver lineup for 2025."

It is clear that Red Bull are taking their time in making a decision on Tsunoda's teammate for 2025. They want to make sure that they make the right choice, and that they have a driver lineup that can challenge for podiums and race wins.
